Idea:

The option to display an action button as a menu separator has only effect for sub-actions.

I find it hard to make it clear that certain actionbuttons can be considered as grouped. A horizontal menu separator could make this more clear.

like in:

Close Publish Withdraw | Set Fontstyle Attach File Append Link | Task\Create a Task

the first set of actions handle the document status, the second group have to do with the content on the document and the last group is related to relating other type of documents to the current document.

Comment: because then you have the mouse over effect, for example.

also I can not set any margins that only apply for the separators.

I guess I have to use an image as a background since the | sign does not cover the whole height of the action bar.

I guess you could have come up with the current problems yourself i pressume...

Comment: And support it in the Basic client too and not just Standard Client (Java Views) like some of the more recent additions to "Notes".
