Lotus Workflow / : Drive workflow by timed events

Author: Dirk Stelloh
Tags: workflow event time
Idea:

Timed activities are manual activities which let the designer specify a deadline (based on routing-time, claiming-time or any given deadline). When this deadline is reached the activity should be claimed (if not already) and completed. It should be possible to check in a decisionpoint whether an activity was completed manually or timed out. Scenarios using this feature:

user may complain during a given period of time

user should aknowledge a job (without the possibility to stop the whole job)

Lotus Workflow / : Enhanced Out-of-office handling

It should be possible to mark Activities for periodical (re-)evaluation of the participants to allow substitutes to work on a specific job. If a workflow is routed to somebody, an this person leaves office next day, the administrator has to react. Implementing the idea will recalculate the participants.

The OOOP of Lotus Workflow should be linked to the out of office-functionality in the mail application. Benefit for the user is, he only has to set his ooo-state in a single place.

Lotus Workflow / : Enhanced email generation

Author: Dirk Stelloh
Tags: workflow email
Idea:

Workflows usually genereate some emails. This function is pretty plain within Lotus Workflow. There are some real important features missing, like the "CC"-Option (I didn't count the times I've benn asked about...). So what could be done better?

Full access to all common email fields (to, cc, bcc, subject, body)

sending HTML-formated emails

using patterns to generate emails

ability to customize link and message pointing to the job

ability to customize system emails (inbox notification, inbox overdue notification, overdue notification, ...)

Lotus Workflow / : enhanced Organization Directory

Author: Dirk Stelloh
Tags: workflow organization organisation
Idea:

The organization directory is pretty important to Lotus Workflow. When using a single organization directory within multiple instances of workflow application, things get somewhat confusing. It's hard to determine, which entries should be used with which application.

It should be possible to arrange Job-Properties, Relations etc. in custom categories.

Categories should be reflected in the views of organization directory

Categories should also be reflected in the selectionboxes/lists in the architect

Lotus Workflow / : Integrate Workflow Architect into Domino Designer

Author: Dirk Stelloh
Tags: workflow architect integration domino designer designer
Idea:

The Lotus Workflow Architect should be integrated into the Domino Designer. This will help to give the user an impression of an well integrated product and could lower the learning curve. As the Lotus Workflow Viewer is essentialy a striped down architect, the viewer could be well integrated into the client and the userexperience.

Lotus Workflow / : Lotus Workflow Viewer as Sidebar-Plugin

Author: Dirk Stelloh
Tags: workflow viewer sidebar plugin notes client
Idea:

Implementing the Lotus Workflow Viewer as a Sidebar-Plugin can really leverage the userexperience when using Lotus Workflow enabled applications in the Notes Client. The Plugin should react to opening a document which uses Lotus Workflow and display the current state of the particular job. Animation of the routing path would also be nice.

Author: Michele McConomy
Comment: In our version, you can only link to ideas in the same ideaspace. I would also say that with this ability to link to multiple ideas, you may consider linking ideas that are beyond just the same ideaspace. This would provide ability to link to any idea in ideajam itself.
Lotus Workflow / : Make Lotus Workflow compatible to clusters

Author: Dirk Stelloh
Tags: workflow cluster compatibility backgrounder viewer
Idea:

Running Lotus Workflow in enterprise scale scenarios is quite hard. Using Lotus Workflow in a cluster-environment is not as easy, as it could. The most anoying fact is the backgrounder, which cannot be tied to just one machine to prevent it is running on different servers at the same time. The viewer-component is another feature which does not work correctly in a cluster. So, please make Lotus Workflow aware of clusters!
