Add mail merge feature to Lotus Documents. Sources for the mail merge need to be Notes Applications (especially address books), Lotus Spreadsheets, Excel to start with.
This is a typical 3rd party application; take a look at Manfred Dillmann's "EasyMail" ( { Link } ). There is a english version of the software available when you scroll down the page.
The only thing really holding us back from using Lotus Documents instead of Word is a mail merge feature. Without that, we will never be able to leave Word. I saw the English version download of the software, but I could not find an English version of a feature list. Take too much time to download and try to figure out what it does. Also, I don't want to have install 3rd party software on all of my desktops for mail merge.
3rd party software is what makes Lotus Notes great, but also, it holds back. Things that should be included in the package can be dismissed with the "Available as 3rd party app" response.
Agree with Troy. I would love to introduce Lotus Documents/Symphony to several companies as an alternative to MSOffice, but its a non starter purely because the first question I will get asked is 'how do you do a mail merge then?'
I see a few here have voted 'No Opinion'. I would be interested to hear why those of you do not feel mailmerge is important in a Word processing application. Perhaps you could comment please. Do you have alternative methods? or is it simply that you dont have need for mail merge functionality yourselves.?
Mail merge should also be email merge. So that each resulting document can be sent out an email out. This is a nice feature of Word and Outlook that Notes is sorely missing.
