Credit goes to Len Berg, who asked me to post this for him.
A succinct group of illustrated chapters covering
basic administration for new Domino admins.

How Domino works:
  • Overview of each process
  • Intraserver communication
  • Communication on different protocols
  • Configuring and Tuning the Domino ...

In response to my call for book proposals...
Cherie is on the rebound from a disappointing, unfulfilling relationship, looking for tech in all the wrong places, when she meets Nathan, dashing and debonair.  Nathan shows Cherie what development can be as he takes her step-by-step through an introduction to ...

Allow cascading fonts in rich text

: Notes Client / richtext
: richtext
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 29 2009 / (2)
: Open
In rich text, I wish I could specify a font that was the ideal font, then a secondary font, and so on, the way that CSS allows a list of possible font faces.  See my blog post for more details if this idea is not clear.

Allow resize of images with exact measurements

: Domino Designer / images pictures pixels
: images, pictures, pixels
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 20 2009 / (0)
: Open
Currently, images are only resizable as a percentage of their original dimensions.  We should be able to:
  • See the current and original dimensions
  • Specifiy new dimensions in inches or pixels (or percent of containing box)
  • Lock the aspect ratio to ensure the image does not look warped.

Are we ready for a Virtual Lotusphere Annex?

: Lotusphere / virtual sessions
: virtual, sessions
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 14 2008 / (4)

I posted this idea on my blog first, but then thought it really belonged here:
Adam Gartenberg proposed an idea on his blog, and I wanted to take it one step further. He suggested an UnLotusphere where people could post the sessions they had that were rejected ...

Attachment icons using less vertical space

: Notes Client / attachments icons
: attachments, icons
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 25 2008 / (0)
: Open
File attachment icons take up so much vertical space that people often put them on a line by themselves, which makes them less useful.  I wish that Notes would support horizontal attachment icons, such as shown in my blog post.  Please be forewarned that my post is talking ...

Performance Tuning FAQ or Utility for Notes 8

: Notes Client / performance notes_client tuning
: performance, notes_client, tuning
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 07 2008 / (12)
: Open
There have been many complaints about the slow start-up and response times for Notes 8, and many rejoinders that say the problem is one of tuning or settings or configuration.  It would be great to have a "Tuning FAQ" (as suggested in this thread) or even "Check up ...

@Formula Editor widget

: Domino Designer / @formula
: @formula
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 06 2008 / (2)
: Withdrawn
I would like to have a widget or dialog box that could pop up and allow a person to enter a formula which would then be validated like any other formula in Domino Designer.  If it validated, it could be saved as a text string. This would allow an application ...

Pose questions/ideas to speakers before and after sessions

: Lotusphere / sessions lotusphere
: sessions, lotusphere
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 08 2008 / (3)
: Open
In Version 2 of the Lotusphere 2008 Sessions DB (now available to replicate or download), I have added a new collaborative feature that allows attendees, or potential attendees, to ask questions before, during and after sessions. Rather than just having each speaker guess at what the audience is ...

Ability to open a spreadsheet or presentation in a frame

: Symphony / spreadsheet presentations
: spreadsheet, presentations
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 06 2007 / (0)
: Open
I'd really like to be able to open a spreadsheey or presentation with some control over where it showed up, not just as a separate tag.  With presentations, this would be even more powerful if my earlier idea Allow me to launch a presentation rather than "edit" one were ...

@IsRichTextEmpty and LotusScript/Java equivalents

: Domino Designer / richtext @formula lotusscript java
: richtext, @formula, lotusscript, java
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 05 2007 / (5)
: Open
Even having a rough way to do this in Midas, I would really like to see a simple @formula (and matching LotusScript) method for determining if there was anything in the rich text.  Even better would be if it took an argument that specified whether whitespace was included, so you ...

Refresh rich text without having to open and close document

: Domino Designer / richtext refresh
: richtext, refresh
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 26 2007 / (5)

It would enable much more powerful and useful applications if IBM could enhance the refresh capability so that a document could be refreshed, including changes to rich text, without saving and without the need for convoluted scripts such as the one Andre Guirard always has to point to:

Give attendees a DVD/USB with all presentation PDFs on it

: Lotusphere / sessions
: sessions
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 15 2007 / (18)

This is always a favorite concept, but we spend a lot of money on a conference to which we cannot attend the vast majority of the sessions.  IBM is going to great lengths to try to ensure that every speaker has slides well before the conference (our deadline is Dec. ...

Soliciting ideas for Lotusphere 2008 Sessions database

As many of you know, for the past seven years, I have provided a Sessions database for Lotusphere.  Last year, it was downloaded by over 4400 unique IP addresses, and we added replication for the first time for those who wanted to get updates.  The sessions database was originally just ...

Acting on Bruce's suggestion, I am soliciting ideas about what you would like to see in my session, "A Jug of Wine, a Spreadsheet, and Thee".  The abstract is:
It is not enough to have productivity editors; now you are expected to be productive. In this session, learn how ...

Extend Notes URLs to execute agents with parameters

: Notes Client / url agents
: url, agents
Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 08 2007 / (4)

You can currently access a document in a Notes client by using notes://server/repid/viewid/noteid, but it would be really handy if this could be extended to allow notes://server/repid/agent?OpenAgent&MyArg1=arg1 and so on, with a CGI variable set in the agent in Notes the way it is on the web.  We already have ...

Allow me to launch a presentation rather than "edit" one

Ben Langhinrichs7009 - 26 2007 / (0)

One of my major gripes with the Lotus Presentations editor is that the only way to use it is as an editor. When you send someone a presentation, the expectation is that they can run the presentation, but there is no way to set it up to just run, and ...
