Idea:

When modifying the Person Document and the field is asking for a Server (home mail server, Sametime server, etc.) the drop down box should limit the choices to only servers. Currently, it shows People, Mail-in Databases, Groups, pretty much all entries in the Domino Directory.

Give Administrators feedback that AdminP has finished processing after using the Tell AdminP commands.

Currently, when an Admin enters any of the "Tell AdminP xxxx" commands on the console, you have to check the Server Tasks to determine if AdminP has finished with the activity. I'd like to see some feedback to the Domino Console that AdminP has completed what has been requested. Like Compact, Fixup, and Updall (among others).

There are other probably other Domino console commands, like dbcache flush, that don't provide the Administrator any feedback, but those will have to wait for another IdeaJam.

Comment: There are a few commands where you can indicate that a completion message has to be send to an administrator. But I think a solution as suggested is much better.

Implement the IMAP Idle command in Domino's IMAP service. This command will allow true wireless synchronization to handheld devices. It will also make the Domino IMAP service compliant with RFC 2177:

The Internet Message Access Protocol [IMAP4] requires a client to poll the server for changes to the selected mailbox (new mail, deletions). It's often more desirable to have the server transmit updates to the client in real time. This allows a user to see new mail immediately. It also helps some real-time applications based on IMAP, which might otherwise need to poll extremely often (such as every few seconds). (While the spec actually does allow a server to push EXISTS responses asynchronously, a client can't expect this behavior and must poll.)

Idea:

When adding aliases to a Person Document, many is the time when a errant space is added to a line. This causes mail routing issues as well as authentication problems. Also, this field allows all characters to be included in a short name (example: apostrophe). If the character is being used for an alternative authentication, that should be fine. But if it has "@domain name" after it, it should be forbidden. The same with allowing inadvertent spaces or tabs.

I could add that allowing spaces in filenames should be forbidden as well (including apostrophes and whatnot).

Comment: I think the form could use some input translations, and as you point out, it's not just for tidiness. I don't agree about spaces in filenames -- space is a valid character there. Just not at the beginning or end.

Comment: @Andre: I understand that a space is valid for some entries, but what I am specifically referring to is any internet address alias. I believe that the actual internet address field does do an @Trim (or similar), so there is *some* validation going on.

Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Allow Admin to Enable OOO Agent/Service for users

Many times the Domino Administrator is asked to enable the OOO agent for a user. I'd like to see an easy (easier?) method for the Admin to accomplish this task.

This isn't that uncommon. A user leaves the office, and then calls to have his/her OOO enabled. While you can ask that they use iNotes/VPN or some other connection to their mail file, some people will not do this. Provide, within the Administration Client or an AdminP request, a way to enable the OOO agent and allow some control over the reply-to message.

* It provides a simple, low-bandwidth solution for push mail for many mobile devices.
* It should be trivial to code.
* It would make Domino's IMAP service RFC compliant.

For too long, e-mail messages using rich text formatting have lost their fidelity when sent to either external addresses or to the iNotes client. A messaging server should be able to preserve the sender's formatting, providing the recipient with a message as it was intended with no loss of fidelity. Currently, there is a product on the market that can preserve the rich text format simply by installing a plug-in and adding two lines to the servers' NOTES.INI. Screen shots can be found here:

Comment: This should definitely be made easier.
Suppose you are upgrading mail templates during holiday and all OoO agents are disabled with the convert. This is a tough task to repair.

Not completely the same as Gregg's request, but the solution could be.

Comment: I would prefer getting rid rich text and CD record nonsense so I wasn't sure if I should promote in this case. It would cure symptoms but still save a proprietary 20th century format. But at the end the question is a different one.

Comment: Bill - Absolutely. The goal, as I understand the idea (and certainly as our iFidelity product works) is to provide a precise version of the mail in another system so that the other user sees just what the Notes sender saw. There should be no loss of formatting capabilities.
