I know... having Emoticons in Lotus Notes will start a looooong discussion ;-).

I think having Emoticons in Lotus Notes would raise the acceptance from the client. I often hear at my customers things like "and where did I find the emoticons... oh Notes doesn´t have... but outlook have"... So I think it would be nice to have it in the lotus notes client. Maybe as an additional feature which can be disabled during installation.

When you say "Emoticons", do you mean the little images, also called smileys? It seems like it would be possible to add them pretty easily as image resources, just by creating a dialog box and making the hotspot on each add the matching image resource.

@Ben

yes this is what I mean... as immage ressource would be possible yes... but for each DB???

What I would like to see is a kind of Aktion Bar... a new one... with maybe 10 Smileys (the same like in Sametime maybe)... so the user can activate the action bar if he would like to use it... and can press the smileys to add them so emails, DBs, what ever... :-)

This might be just me, but...
Having been introduced to email at a time when rich-text / HTML emails were almost unheard of, I have a lingering resistance to *some* recent changes in email usage and presentation. Emoticon graphics are one thing I really don't want to see in Notes. The old text emoticons are fine.

And while I'm at it, I'd be happier if all email clients used the "bottom-posting" method for replies by default, instead of the "top-posting" method that Notes, Outlook and others have been using :P

Part of the code is already there, in the embedded Sametime 8 client. Extending it to Notes would be excellent. (and obviously share the same images)

I love the idea - if people want to use them, then let them use them. It's another way to personalise something in a controlled manner.

I use Skype, Google Talk and MSN with my clients. And it drives me mad when my colleagues and peers are behind firewalls and can't use MSN - because talking to someone for 1 or 2 hours per day has to have some personality in it - and Google Talk is so dead faced it's grim!

Hey, and Scott - re the bottom posting, it's off-topic, I know, but each to their own hey? I totally disagree with bottom posting - someone has just written to me, what have they written - not scroll down 20 pages first :-0 That's my take, but off-topic anyhoo! :-) ... ooh, look, I just smiled!

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail?

definetely a must have!

I think this is an excellent idea (I posted it earlier today in the ND 8.5 beta forum).
